Emanuele Gerosa was born in 1975 in Rovereto in Italy; he graduates in Contemporary History at the university of Bologna in 2001 and the same year he begins to work as filmmaker.
In 2008 he starts collaborating with an Italian NGO to direct his first medium-length documentary called Kamenge Northern Quarters, completed in 2010. The film has travelled through several international Film Festivals winning 3 awards: "Silver Audience Award" at the 15° Amnesty International Film Festival (2010 - Canada), “Best Documentary Production" award at the 26° Black International Cinema Berlin (2011 - Germany) and “Best Medium-Length Documentary" award at the 7° Montreal International Black Film Festival (2011 - Canada).
In 2012 he finishes his second medium-length documentary called Lion Souls. The film, produced with the support of Provincia Autonoma di Trento, won the "Jury Prize in the Documentaries Competition" at 16° Ismailia International Film Festival (2013 - Egypt).
In 2015 he completes his first feature documentary Between Sisters, produced by Oneworld DocuMakers (Italy), Clin d'oeil films (Belgium) and Doha Film Institute (Qatar). The film has been premiered in Italy at 56° Festival dei Popoli in December 2015 and it had its international premiere at the True/False Film Festival in the US in March 2016. Between Sisters has received several awards: "Cinema AMoRe" at 64° Trento Film Festival (2016 - Italy), "Best Film" at 18° Ismailia International Film Festival (2016 - Egypt), "Best Film" given by EFCA - Egyptian Film Critics Association (2016 - Egypt), “Special Mention” at 61° Seminci - Semana Internacional de Cine de Valladolid (2016 - Spain) and “Special Mention Audio Visual Discovery” at the Prix Scam 2017 given by French Author Society (2017 – France).
Actually Emanuele is working at his new film called One More Jump, produced by Graffiti Doc (Italy) and co-produced by RAI Cinema (Italy) and Amka Films Production (Swiss). The project has been part of the European workshop ESoDoc in 2016, where it has won the "When East Meets West" Award and it has won an award at "Premio Solinas Documentario per il Cinema 2017". The film is planned to be completed in the fall of 2018 or beginning of 2019.
